Pete Doherty Explains Bizarre Train Uniform Theft

Pete Doherty Explains Bizarre Train Uniform Theft

British rocker Pete Doherty has explained a bizarre story which suggested he was banned from France's rail network for stealing staff uniforms, revealing he took a pair of shoes from a platform when he turned up at the station in hotel slippers.
The Libertines star, who is now based in Paris, hit headlines in October (12) when he alleged he was unable to travel across France by train due to an investigation into a number of missing goods.
He wrote in a post on his blog, "(Taking) the train is out of the question. I am currently in discussion with (the train company) regarding my accountability for a missing trolley-load of staff uniforms (gaberdine wool mind you), cold meats, cutlery."
Doherty has now explained that he took a pair of guard's shoes from a station in Paris after arriving there without proper footwear, but insists he mailed them back to bosses at the train line.
He tells fastmazaa.blogspot.com , "A pair of shoes had been left on the platform. And I was in a bit of a state, I was basically in these hotel slippers, and I was late for a train at Gare de Lyon. So I just put these shoes on. It was only afterwards as the train was pulling out I saw a ticket inspector with no shoes coming down the platform. It was comic more than anything. I posted them back. I just changed the laces from black to pink."
A spokesperson for the rail network, Societe Nationale des Chemins de fer Francais (Sncf), insists the star has not been banned from the network, but has no knowledge of Doherty's alleged shoe theft.
