Tom Hanks And Will Smith Team Up At Governor's Awards 2012

It's been a relatively quiet year for both Tom Hanks and Will Smith, though both teamed up for the Governor's Awards 2012 on Saturday evening (December 1, 2012). Producers of the show had enlisted the Hollywood giants to present DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg with the first Oscar of awards' season.
Katzenberg received an honorary award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science for his humanitarian work. Smith introduced the revered producer, while Hanks gave fitting speech about the CEO's generosity and his fundraising efforts after the 9/11 attacks. "Jeffrey Katzenberg doesn't have to do any of these things. But Jeffrey Katzenberg cannot help but to do all of these things - it is in his DNA. Jeffrey Katzenberg is a brilliant man, a hardworking man, a visionary and one of the most powerful men (in Hollywood)." Joking about his time spent with Katzenberg, Hanks added, "It's not just the invitation to breakfast. It's the lunch that lasts exactly 47 minutes. It's the follow-up phone call. It's the tour of the facility. It's the follow-up phone call. It's the letter to remind you of the phone call and the tour of the facility. And finally, it's the contribution you make."
Elsewhere at the ceremony, Quentin Tarantino gave a speech for stuntman Hal Needham, who revolutionized the stunt business by appearing in 310 feature films. "He is the man," said the Django Unchained director, "Before he became a director, he pushed the boundaries of what could be done.I have ripped off many shots from you. Today, I say thank you very much."

Pete Doherty Explains Bizarre Train Uniform Theft

Pete Doherty Explains Bizarre Train Uniform Theft

British rocker Pete Doherty has explained a bizarre story which suggested he was banned from France's rail network for stealing staff uniforms, revealing he took a pair of shoes from a platform when he turned up at the station in hotel slippers.
The Libertines star, who is now based in Paris, hit headlines in October (12) when he alleged he was unable to travel across France by train due to an investigation into a number of missing goods.
He wrote in a post on his blog, "(Taking) the train is out of the question. I am currently in discussion with (the train company) regarding my accountability for a missing trolley-load of staff uniforms (gaberdine wool mind you), cold meats, cutlery."
Doherty has now explained that he took a pair of guard's shoes from a station in Paris after arriving there without proper footwear, but insists he mailed them back to bosses at the train line.
He tells fastmazaa.blogspot.com , "A pair of shoes had been left on the platform. And I was in a bit of a state, I was basically in these hotel slippers, and I was late for a train at Gare de Lyon. So I just put these shoes on. It was only afterwards as the train was pulling out I saw a ticket inspector with no shoes coming down the platform. It was comic more than anything. I posted them back. I just changed the laces from black to pink."
A spokesperson for the rail network, Societe Nationale des Chemins de fer Francais (Sncf), insists the star has not been banned from the network, but has no knowledge of Doherty's alleged shoe theft.

Rapper Big Sean is launching a new organisation to help young children in his native Detroit, Michigan.
The Clique hitmaker has created the Sean Anderson Foundation to aid youngsters' development and schooling.
In a statement to fastmazaa.blogspot.com, he writes, "The mission of the Sean Anderson Foundation is to assist in the education, health, safety and well-being of Detroit area school-aged youth. I want to use my awareness to improve the situations in our school systems in particular.
"My school played an integral part of making me the man I am today and without that education and extra care, I don't know where I would be today. So, I just want to help support the well being of young people in anyway that I can."
The star's mother Myra Anderson will serve as president of the foundation, which is named after the rapper.

Katy Perry Accepts Hero Award From Trevor Project

Katy Perry Accepts Hero Award From Trevor Project

Katy Perry turned the spotlight on volunteers for the Trevor Project on Sunday (02Dec12) as the suicide prevention organisation presented her with an award for championing gay rights.
The singer was handed the Hero trophy at a star-studded ceremony, and she used her acceptance speech to honour the dedicated team members who man telephone helplines for the U.S. crisis intervention service.
She told the crowd at Los Angeles' Hollywood Palladium, "The real heroes are the folks... at the call centres. (They're) incredibly inspiring."
Perry also explained how her strict religious upbringing informed her early views on sexuality, but admitted she now feels "intricately woven" in the gay community thanks to her close circle of friends.
She is quoted by fastmazaa.blogspot.com as saying, "I grew up in a very intolerant environment. For a long time, I was told that people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning were an abomination. As I've grown up, I've freed myself from the mindset.
"There was some perspective growth in my family. I believe in change... I believe that sexuality is fluid - nobody introduces me as, 'This is Katy Perry, she is straight.' I hope in the future that we will all grow beyond labels, beyond treating gays as a novelty friend group."
The evening featured performances from Glee stars including Naya Rivera, Kristin Chenoweth and Darren Criss, as well as an auction, during which Perry pulled in $15,000 (£9,375) by offering a trip with her to Disneyland.

Robbie Coltrane Losing Weight For Knee Surgery

Robbie Coltrane Losing Weight For Knee Surgery

Harry Potter heavy weight Robbie Coltrane has embarked on a diet to lose more than 100 pounds (45 kilograms) so he can undergo a knee operation.
The actor, who played half-man, half-giant Hagrid in the wizard franchise, tipped the scales at 280 pounds (127 kilograms) but he has already shed 63 pounds (29 kilograms) in the last six months after giving up his favourite junk foods.
He is hoping to drop another 56 pounds (25 kilograms) before going under the knife to fix an old sports injury, which has left him with arthritis in his right knee.
Revealing the key to his diet success, Coltrane explains, "Avoiding all the things I like. Make a list of the things you like to eat and avoid them all. It's all come off in six months, but four stone's (56 pounds) not much to lose when you're my weight."
Coltrane, who hurt his knee playing rugby at school in Scotland, will head to the U.S. for surgery to replace his cartilage with teflon once he reaches his goal weight.
He says, "It's very painful... The long-term plan is to have it done in America but not until I've lost another four stone."

Helen Mirren Gives Foul-mouthed Speech At European Film Awards

Dame Helen Mirren turned the air blue at the European Film Awards on Saturday (01Dec12) in a foul-mouthed tribute to veteran French actress Jeanne Moreau.
The Queen star took to the stage at the event in Malta to accept a prize for her contribution to world cinema and she used the opportunity to reference Moreau in her acceptance speech, telling the audience, "Thank you for the great honour of recognising that I too am a f**king w**re - and I am very very proud of it."
Mirren's outburst mirrored a speech by Moreau, who won a similar honour at the 2007 event and proclaimed: "We are the f**king wonderful w**res of European cinema."
The British actress went on to explain her choice of words by listing Moreau among the actresses she has idolised throughout her career, adding, "Jeanne Moreau, Monica Vitti, Claudia Cardinale, Liv Ullmann, Hanna Schygulla, Melina Mercouri, Irene Papas and for me the greatest of all Anna Magnani - those to me were the actresses that I looked up to and and wanted to be like - I wanted to be an actress like them and I wanted to be a woman like them."
During the ceremony, director Bernardo Bertolucci was honoured with a lifetime achievement award, and Michael Haneke's latest movie Amour scooped the event's top prize - the Best European Film of 2012 title.
